Environmental Toxicology and Epidemiology Training Grant
Supported by the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, NIHThis program provides predoctoral and postdoctoral research training in the study of the causes and prevention of adverse consequences to human health that may result from environmental exposures.
This program is designed to train future leaders in environmental health sciences (EHS) by providing transdisciplinary research training that bridges environmental mechanistic toxicology and environmental molecular epidemiology with applications to human disease prevention.
Why Study Toxicology and Environmental Epidemiology?
Do you have knowledge in biological, chemical, environmental, or mathematical sciences?
Do you desire to improve the understanding of how environmental agents affect human health?
An exciting and rewarding career in toxicology and epidemiology is waiting for you!
Toxicologists reveal mechanisms by which toxicants initiate pathological dysfunction or disease and identify interventiosn for the prevention of adverse effects. Read about career information in toxicology.
Environmental epidemiologists use human observational studies to identify environmental exposures of concern, determine the degree of risk associated with an exposure, and evaluate the value of polices implemented to protect against these exposures. Read about jobs in epidemiology.
Both environmental epidemiologists and toxicologists contribue their scientic expertise to society as teachers, researchers, policy advisors, and consultants in the various sectors of academics, government, nonprofit organizations, and private institutions.
The Program
Based in the Department of Environmental Health Sciences, the program brings together faculty, postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, and research scientists from across the University of Michigan who share interests and expertise in toxicology and epidemiology
As a leading teaching and reearch institution, the University of Michigan offers a dynamic and exciting atmosphere for advanced research training.
Our interdisciplinary faculty provide toxicology and epidemiology training to trainees.
A core curriculum provides the academic foundation for toxicology research for predoctoral graduate students and opportunities for postdoctoral fellows to enhance their academic background.
Our graduates have been successful in diverse career trajectories; see some of their job titles and the institutions at which they work.
Over 100 articles have been published through this NIEHS Grant #T32-ES007062 from trainees at the University of Michigan
