Elections

The Public Health Student Assembly is the University of Michigan School of Public Health student government. Our primary goal is to foster dialog between the school's various departments, assist student organizations, and plan our events! Additionally, PHSA facilitates student-to-student conversations and serves as a liaison between the student body and the school's administration, representing students' interests and needs to foster personal and professional growth.

  •  Nomination Form Live: Friday, August 30 - Friday, September 13, 11:59 p.m.  
  •  Election Ballot Live: Monday, September 16 - Wednesday, September 25, 5:00 pm

PHSA Fall Election Open Positions and Descriptions

  • Secretary (can be any SPH student)
    • Open Position for an SPH Undergraduate or Graduate Student in good academic standing (as determined by the Registrar's Office) and enrolled full-time in the SPH. Executive Board Member who assists with executive and senate agenda setting and meeting minutes, PHSA internal organization, and external communication/promotion to the SPH student body.
  • Parliamentarian (can be any SPH student)
    • Open Position for an Undergraduate or Graduate Student in good academic standing (as determined by the Registrar's Office) and enrolled full-time in the SPH. This executive board voting member is responsible for knowing the PHSA constitution and the by-laws. Accountable for maintaining rationale behind decisions such as constitutional amendments, shifts in responsibilities or positions, etc. They work with the Treasurer to update and maintain the PHSA Inventory spreadsheet.
  • First-Year Representative (must be a first-year graduate student)
    • Open Position for an incoming Graduate Student in good academic standing (as determined by the Registrar's Office) who is enrolled full-time in the SPH. The First-Year Representative can be from any SPH Graduate Department. An Executive Board voting member, a liaison between the first-year graduate students and PHSA, and an advocate for the needs of the first-year graduate school class.
  • International Student Representative (must be an international student)
    • Open Position for an Undergraduate or Graduate Student in good academic standing (as determined by the Registrar's Office) and enrolled full-time in the SPH. A Departmental Board voting member responsible for being an intermediate between SPH international students and the PHSA Senate. The International Student Representative is responsible for voicing relevant concerns or ideas from the international student body at SPH to the PHSA Senate and is also required to disseminate relevant information from the PHSA Senate to their student subset. They will also be expected to coordinate with existing international student organizations to ensure that PHSA meets the needs of the international student population at SPH. All members of the Departmental Board, along with the rest of the PHSA Senate, are expected to support and assist other PHSA Senate members in coordinating PHSA events. Each Departmental Board member is responsible for coordinating and attending at least one PHSA event each semester and helping plan for the semesterly PHSA Town Hall.
  • Biostatistics Chair (must be a Biostatistics student)
    • Open Position for a Biostatistics Graduate Student in good academic standing (as determined by the Registrar's Office) and enrolled full-time in the SPH. A Departmental Board voting member responsible for being an intermediate between the Biostatistics students and the PHSA Senate. The Biostatistics Chair is responsible for voicing relevant concerns or ideas from the biostatistics student body at SPH to the PHSA Senate. They must also disseminate relevant information from the PHSA Senate to their department. All members of the Departmental Board, along with the rest of the PHSA Senate, are expected to support and assist other PHSA Senate members in coordinating PHSA events. Each Departmental Board member is responsible for coordinating and attending at least one PHSA event each semester and helping plan for the semesterly PHSA Town Hall.
  • Environmental Health Sciences Chair (must be an Environmental Health Sciences student)
    • Open Position for an Environmental Health Sciences Graduate Student in good academic standing (as determined by the Registrar's Office) and enrolled full-time in the SPH. A Departmental Board voting member responsible for being an intermediate between the Environmental Health Sciences students and the PHSA Senate. The Environmental Health Sciences Chair is responsible for voicing relevant concerns or ideas from the Environmental Health Sciences student body at SPH to the PHSA Senate. They must also disseminate relevant information from the PHSA Senate to their department. All members of the Departmental Board, along with the rest of the PHSA Senate, are expected to support and assist other PHSA Senate members in coordinating PHSA events. Each Departmental Board member is responsible for coordinating and attending at least one PHSA event each semester and helping plan for the semesterly PHSA Town Hall.
  • Epidemiology Chair (must be an Epidemiology student)
    • Open Position for an Epidemiology Graduate Student in good academic standing (as determined by the Registrar's Office) and enrolled full-time in the SPH. A Departmental Board voting member responsible for being an intermediate between the Epidemiology students and the PHSA Senate. The Epidemiology Chair is responsible for voicing relevant concerns or ideas from the Epidemiology student body at SPH to the PHSA Senate. They must also disseminate relevant information from the PHSA Senate to their department. All members of the Departmental Board, along with the rest of the PHSA Senate, are expected to support and assist other PHSA Senate members in coordinating PHSA events. Each Departmental Board member is responsible for coordinating and attending at least one PHSA event each semester and helping plan for the semesterly PHSA Town Hall.
  • Health Informatics Chair (must be a Health Informatics student)
    • Open Position for a Health Informatics Graduate Student in good academic standing (as determined by the Registrar's Office) and enrolled full-time in the SPH. A Departmental Board voting member responsible for being an intermediate between the Health Informatics students and the PHSA Senate. The Health Informatics Chair is responsible for voicing relevant concerns or ideas from the Health Informatics student body at SPH to the PHSA Senate. They must also disseminate relevant information from the PHSA Senate to their department. All members of the Departmental Board, along with the rest of the PHSA Senate, are expected to support and assist other PHSA Senate members in coordinating PHSA events. Each Departmental Board member is responsible for coordinating and attending at least one PHSA event each semester and helping plan for the semesterly PHSA Town Hall.
  • DEI Co-Chairs (graduate & undergraduate positions open)
    • Open Position for an SPH Graduate and Undergraduate Student in good academic standing (as determined by the Registrar's Office) and enrolled full-time in the SPH. The DEI Co-Chairs are open to any Graduate and Undergraduate student from any department. The DEI Co-Chairs will support the activities of the PHSA Senate by serving on pertinent committees within SPH, coordinating with existing student organizations that serve minority students, and partnering with the Office of Student Life on events intended to foster diversity. The PHSA DEI Chair will meet with the SPH DEI staff leadership to discuss strategic goals and action plans for the academic year and is in charge of promoting and executing events focused on promoting diversity and addressing the needs of minority students in the SPH. The DEI Chair will be prominent in the semesterly PHSA Town Hall.
  • Professional Development Co-Chair (graduate position open)
    • Open Position for an SPH Graduate Student in good academic standing (as determined by the Registrar's Office) and enrolled full-time in the SPH. The Professional Development Chairs will disseminate knowledge about events pertaining to professional development within the School and within the wider University. They will coordinate SPH events or activities related to professional development opportunities, and serve as a liaison between the administration who works with alumni and the current student body. The Professional Development Chair will meet with Career Services and the Development Office to discuss strategic goals for the upcoming year. The Professional Development Chair will also oversee the Undergraduate-Graduate Mentorship Program.
  • Service Co-Chair (graduate position open)
    • Open Position for an SPH Graduate Student in good academic standing (as determined by the Registrar's Office) and enrolled full-time in the SPH. The Graduate Service Co-Chair is open to any Graduate student from any department. As head of the Service Committee, the Graduate Service Chair organizes and develops service-related opportunities for the SPH student body that serve the internal and external community. They collaborate with the Office of Student Affairs on events that foster public health service.
  • Social Co-Chair (graduate position open)
    • Open Position for an SPH Graduate Student in good academic standing (as determined by the Registrar's Office) and enrolled full-time in the SPH. The Graduate Social Co-Chair is open to any Graduate student from any department. As head of the Social Committee, the Social Chairs organize and create social events for the entire student body to build community, networking, and engagement among SPH students.
