Reflecting on his 60-year career in public health, Michigan Public Health’s Dr. Arnold Monto said his success has hinged on his ability to address the laboratory, population and policy concerns that impact public health measures to halt the spread and reduce the severity of influenza epidemics and pandemics. By doing so, he has helped to save countless lives, prevent untold suffering and provide future generations with the tools to stem the threat of severe respiratory illnesses.

Michigan Public Health alumni lead with a public health perspective

University of Michigan School of Public Health alumni Abdullah Hammoud and Ali Abazeed are leading their hometown of Dearborn, Michigan, with a public-health-in-all-policies approach. Hammoud, an epidemiologist, is the mayor, and Abazeed is the founding director of the inaugural Department of Public Health.

Global Health Epidemiology student's career path recalibrated after pair of internships

Abbey Hutton always believed that her future was somewhere in the health and medical field. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology from the University of Michigan, graduating in 2021. Hutton, who was an Academic All-Big Ten honoree for three straight seasons with the Michigan field hockey team, is on track to earn a Master in Public Health in Global Health Epidemiology in 2023.
