Eligibility for the IRTHA Training Program

Information about applications for the 2026/2027 academic year will be available in early 2026.

The IRTHA training program accepts three predoctoral trainees into two-year training fellowships per year. For each training fellowship period, the program will provide funding including a stipend, tuition support, health care coverage, and modest support for research needs and training-related travel.

IRTHA Training Program Eligibility

Enrollment in or acceptance to a doctoral degree program administered by the Rackham Graduate School in the Department of Epidemiology or one of the program partner departments: the Departments of Biostatistics, Health Behavior & Health Education, Environmental Health Sciences, Health Management & Policy, Psychology, Sociology, and the School of Nursing.

Applicants are expected to have a clear and well-established commitment to research aimed at improving the health and well-being of older adults.

US citizenship or permanent residency is required, as this training program is sponsored by the US National Institute on Aging.
