About the Certificate

The Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Certificate was created as part of the new Center of Excellence for Maternal, Child, and Adolescent Health at Michigan Public Health. Established with support from the Maternal and Child Health Bureau, the Center aims to address critical gaps in the national MCH workforce by preparing future public health professionals with the knowledge, skills, and leadership capacity needed to advance equity and improve the health of mothers, children, adolescents, and their families.

The MCH Certificate is a comprehensive, school-wide program. Through interdisciplinary coursework, hands-on learning opportunities, and direct engagement with the CoE’s initiatives, students develop specialized competencies that align with national MCH leadership standards. Students completing the certificate gain a strong foundation in MCH systems, policies, and practices and are well-prepared to enter the MCH public health workforce and contribute meaningfully to improving the health and well-being of MCH populations.
