Despite its interdisciplinary nature, public health tends to approach food systems problems in isolation. But occupational exposures, social determinants, personal behaviors, and chronic disease are interdependent, meaning food-systems solutions require deep, broad collaborations.
Underserved communities around the globe create their own innovative solutions to health care problems. How can we use the insights and knowledge from public health partners in these communities to develop better functioning health care systems here in the US?
Interprofessional collaboration, teamwork, communication, and intercultural intelligence are vital skills for a public health practitioner. As IPE is integrated into public health education, learners will interact and learn with peers in other health professions regularly and can bring their insights with them into their professional work life.
Advances in genetic science provide us more and more information about our health. Biobanks are increasing the organization of that data so we can ask and answer crucial health questions more rapidly, from diseases we might have to how we might respond to certain drug treatments.
Can artificial intelligence improve the patient-provider relationship? Can it help us get healthy and stay healthy? From preventing physician burnout to better organizing our health records, AI is a powerful, promising tool that we all should know more about.
Over 85 percent of US adults age 65 and over suffer from at least one chronic illness, and about 65–75 percent of those adults suffer from two or more chronic illnesses. How can we manage this burden on older adults as well as the burden on the health care system in cost-effective ways?
