Erin Wilke had a great job in a state she loved, but she wanted to grow. After completing a bachelor's degree in public health, she started working as a research coordinator within the orthopedic department of the Medical University of South Carolina. She did not want to uproot her life.
Lauren Balotin wants to understand the health impacts of climate change—one of the largest public health crises of our generation—so she can help communities adapt. To do so, she knows the science will need to go hand in hand with great communication.
With business acumen and nursing skills running in the family, master’s student Elizabeth Lusk feels rather at home in public health. Her own path has led her into health management and policy work, where she is finding ways to ensure health systems operate well as businesses and in the contexts of their communities.
Undergraduate public health student Reem Fawaz always wanted to make an impact in her community. She began her journey to medical school, then decided to include in her education a public health foundation, which she says is vital to achieving her goal of building healthier communities.
With growing experience in epidemiology and health policy, master’s student Payton Watt is pursuing her passion for improving health in lower income populations. She continues to examine a pandemic that revealed flaws in US health care and how better policy can ensure access to basic needs.
