With the MHRT program, Lindsey traveled to Kenya in Summer 2023 where she worked with the data science and nutrition and food systems teams at the African Population and Health Research Center. Her projects centered around mortality and morbidity rates in East Africa and an analysis of supermarket purchases on chronic disease rates. Using advanced machine learning techniques and innovative measures to assess morbidity and mortality rates, the data science unit examined supermarket purchasing patterns on health, cause of death variation, and healthcare utilization in Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania. In addition to sharing her research work, she will share her experiences with the MHRT program and global health research as a student.
