Our Commitment to Michigan Public Health Students & Alumni
The University of Michigan School of Public Health’s Career Office aims to create inclusive and affirming spaces in which students and alumni feel that their goals, interests, and strengths are valued and affirmed. Recognizing that going to a Careers Office can sometimes feel intimidating, we aim to build intentional partnerships where students and alumni take the lead in identifying the support that they need. During our interactions, we consistently seek feedback about the support we are providing and what will be most beneficial to achieve their goals.
Student Experience: "The Careers Office provided invaluable assistance in resume building and job search endeavors. Collaborating with the Careers team proved immensely beneficial throughout my internship search, contributing significantly to securing a placement. As an international student navigating through the process, their guidance greatly simplified matters, and I am immensely grateful for their support. I truly appreciate their help, as I couldn't have managed it all alone."
Services Overview
Through offering a variety of ways to engage with our office, we hope for students and alumni to access our services and resources in a way that best aligns with their learning style and schedule.
We provide in-person and virtual drop-in hours with our professional career coaches and our peer career coaches. During in-person drop-ins, students can stop by Suite 1700 in SPH I where we have coffee, tea, snacks, relaxing music, and a space to work on internship and job application materials and searches as well as receive support from coaches. Virtual drop-ins are accessed via the Michigan Public Health Careers Gateway. For more information, visit the Career Coaching page.
Students are invited to schedule 1:1 in-person and virtual appointments with our professional career coaches. During these appointments, students can talk with us about career opportunities in the public health field that align with their interests, internship and job search strategies, as well as their application materials and processes. For more information, visit the Career Coaching page.
We offer various in-person and virtual events throughout the academic year including our Public Health Career Fairs, where students can connect with employers interested in hiring students, alumni working in public health fields, and second year students sharing their internship experiences. We also offer Virtual Career Exploration Alumni Panels, where students learn about alumni career paths, and workshops on various career preparation topics.
Our Michigan Public Health Careers Resource Site is available for students and alumni to access at any time and includes guides, worksheets, and videos on career preparation topics, public health careers, department-specific information, and international student, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI), and wellness resources.
