Historic Impact

The Department of Epidemiology was established in 1941 as one of three departments in the newly founded School of Public Health at the University of Michigan. Initially led by Dr. Thomas Francis Jr., the department has been home to groundbreaking public health efforts. Our esteemed faculty have pioneered pivotal research studies, developed vaccines, and established world-renowned educational programs, leaving an indelible mark on public health policy and practice worldwide.
