Student Travel Health and Safety

International travel pre-departure requirements differ based on travel destination, degree, and specific department requirements.

Students awarded funding for international travel through Public Health Practice & Global Engagement (PHPGE) will be asked to complete standard university requirements in addition to school specific requirements. Review the PHPGE guidelines.

Students on “Group Travel Abroad” do not need to register their travel nor complete a Safety Plan/Travel Health Plan — your sponsoring U-M department or the group leader will complete a Group Safety Plan on the student participants’ behalf. Check with the specific program for additional requirements that may be needed.

Undergraduates students on U-M Related Travel (UMRT) must complete several requirements before travel including determining the travel risk rating of the destination, travel registration and obtaining special insurance.

Graduate students on U-M Related Travel (UMRT) (not receiving funding from PHPGE) must complete several requirements before travel including determining the travel risk rating of the destination, travel registration and obtaining special insurance.
